Builds.
Hi guys, pretty sure no one has asked such a noob question but i'ma still gonna ask it. I know the idea of builds is to use it against pvp, have a unique strategy against others. But i've seen in this forum and others regarding builds for PvE, i'm wondering what are they use for? As in, cant i just use my normal character and fight against the monsters? whats so different bout those builds? For example, i've seen people say like they've builds for griffon farming ? Really appreciate your help guys. Thank you all in advance.

Builds In General
As you have already noticed,
Builds (mostly) are for PvP or GvG. You have already stated that Builds for these are to target certain characters or builds (called Anti-...).
The samethine applies in PvE. There are builds that are made to quickly and easily take down certain monsters. Monsters have a set amount of defense, damage, and skills. Therefore, they are easy to predict what they have and what they can do. So, people create builds to easily dispense with those monsters. The reason for this is so people can farm and gain XP or money or items.
Can you take down monsters without a build? Absolutely, but some people have a hard time taking down 5 griffons, or 20 trolls, etc. Some people have taken time and effort to create an easy way to destroy certain monsters and have graciously provided their knowledge to others.
I myself, don't use builds, so sometimes I get my butt kicked by monsters, and sometimes I crush them. Some builds, like runners, are created to easily move people around areas or missions. They "taxi" people to their destination for either "tips" or a straight fee.
Builds are basically used to do certain tasks easier than others.
So, you don't need a build to do things, just sometimes, its easier with one than without (in certain situations).
Hope that helps.

Ive always thought of builds like a combination of skills, equipment, or even characters (a party build). in that way of thinking, you always have a build ;P. so even if i have a set of skills i use for general purpose pve or so, i still say build ^^
there are some popular "builds" which are simply very very spread and work ok, so its ok to say something like "boon prot" "ss necro" or something like that, as theres a set of skills that really doesnt change (ie, its old, tested, and verified OK, no need to change anything) and this way u describe your skills and possibly equipment + way of play very fast :P
now that i read it, doesnt make that much sense does it.. hope it helps you

Thanx
hey thanx. You explained it neatly. Absolutely got it. Btw, are the majority of items like armor, weapons and stuff, those unique and good ones, dropped from monsters or crafted?

you are new then ;P
typically, you can craft items with already max stats.
armor can ONLY be crafted, that is, you cant find armor to wear from drops or such. armor is "customized" upon crafting, which makes it "unwearable" for other characters. in the beginning of the pve campaign, the armor you can craft is not max-armor class. when you get to the point a piece costs 1.5k +the materials, its max armor class ^_^. no difference in armor class between 1.5k, 15k, or fissure armor, its just the looks
shields/weapons are craftable, only upgrades are not, those you need to find.
just play the game ;P
